TEACHING

Michelle has been teaching since 2009 in a number of schools and for various organisations across the country. Michelle first began leading workshops at Harris Academy, Rainham Essex within their performing arts department, covering drama lessons (maternity cover) and directing/choreographing for the school shows. Following this, Michelle led multiple dance/art workshops across Essex, London, Kent & Surrey for the Education Group and held one-off musical theatre workshops for the Brentwood School, Kings Ely and at King Edwards Witley.

Most recently Michelle has been the resident acting tutor and acting through song practitioner for the West End Kids company London and west end kids vocal studio (online) and is a drama/acting teacher at Sylvia Young Theatre School.

In 2018 Michelle founded Savi Creative arts in order to bring affordable part-time training options to under-represented creatives (18+). She ran 13 week courses which included scratch performances at the phoenix artist club and also a short run at a London venue where Michelle would write & direct a brand new ensemble based show every term. Savi Arts shows include: Twistmas, co-written with Emma Pritchard, & Almost Paradise at the bunker theatre 2018 & 2019, squad Goals at the Other Palace 2019 and Glow up at the Tristan Bates theatre 2019.

During lockdown 2020, Michelle wrote an array of monologues for Damien Poole theatre arts online summer showcase and directed the students (13-21) to perform these over zoom to an audience. Michelle also ran two 'Savi Online' adult courses to discover digital theatre and retrain creatives exploring the prospects of making theatre remotely with technology in mind. This course was collaborative by nature and involved lots of discussions with freelancers working in digital theatre.

in 2021 Michelle was commissioned by Performance Preparation Academy to write a brand new show for their third year acting for stage & screen students which she then directed in the Eve Lyons Studio Theatre, Guildford. This show The Liberators was performed for a run to a live audience as well as via digital stream. Michelle has also directed projects for the Chichester Conservatoire (BA Musical Theatre Performance) and for London College of Music.

Michelle thoroughly enjoys teaching both the next generation of performers and students from areas of low-cultural engagement and believes that drama & performance is a vital skill for young people.
